Presidents Adams and Jefferson Shared July 4th In A Unique And Unplanned Way

July 4, 1826

Two presidents who made major contributions to the creation of our country died on the same day: July 4, 1826 – the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson died at noon; John Adams a few hours later.

The two men shared a complex relationship, at first adversarial and later affectionate and respectful.

A very interesting book that examines the complicated and unique relationship between these two men (among many other things) is David McCullough’s John Adams .
