My mom and I witnessed the rare treat of a beautiful specimen of a Pileated Woodpecker claiming a cedar tree next to the 52nd street entrance going through. The species usually inhabits the lowland hills and does not usually nest on the Western side of the Puget Sound basin. Truly an amazing experience. Great video of an individual from across Lake Washington.
